Since the gyms have reopened I’ve been making an effort to go nearly everyday (with a few rest days here and there), I’ve always been more of a gym goer than an outdoor exercise kind of person so when the gyms closed for months on end, I struggled with not doing any exercises that I love. I’ve also decided to cut back on the not so healthy foods and get back into my routine of healthy eating 80% of the time as was the case before lockdown. I sometimes get a bit peckish between meal times so I’ve recently been looking out for some healthy snacks instead of the not so healthy (but super yummy) baking treats I was consuming.
I’m sure there are so many people who are in the same boat as me so I thought I would list my favourite healthy snacks, in a bid to help others who are trying to get back into the swing of healthy eating again.
Cucumber & Hummus
I love hummus and I think it’s such a great snack, sometimes I will have this for lunch amidst other healthy things of course. I also love pitta bread (lightly toasted) dipped in hummus, this is definitely more filling than just cucumber so may be a better option if you’re planning on having it for lunch. If you don’t like cucumber or pitta bread, you can try carrots or celery.
Snack a Jacks Chocolate Chips Rice Cakes
These are one of my favourites and only 62 cals per rice cake! I’m a massive chocolate lover so anything which is healthy and has chocolate in is a massive yes from me. Admittedly, try not to eat more than 2 or 3 (they are really addictive) although I probably have ‘accidentally’ had a few more than this in one sitting in the past…
I picked these up from Aldi and was happy when I found a healthier alternative to crisps. These came in a pack 5 and consisted of different flavours; Hummus bites (Tomato & Basil), Lentil Bites (Sea Salt) and Quinoa Bites (Sour Cream & Chive). I was pleasantly surprised at how good they tasted! Will definitely be buying them like allll the time.
Yogurt and Fruit
I usually tend to have this either for my breakfast or for dessert but I’m sure some wouldn’t mind it for an afternoon snack. I buy greek yogurt and serve it with strawberries and bananas, with a little honey to finish. Obviously, you can use whatever yogurt you prefer and your favourite fruit. I feel like this is an obvious one but so underrated.
Apple and Peanut Butter
This one I was only recently introduced to (cant believe I didn’t think of it sooner!?) and it sounds so simple but yet is just so good. You can obviously choose which peanut butter you prefer and pair it with a different fruit or vegetable of your choice (whatever tickles your fancy).
